Our verdict
This tour fits a typical Belize City call (8:00 am–4:30 pm). It runs 1 h 30 min; ashore by 8:45 am, you can start by 8:53 am and be back at the gangway around 10:31 am — 4 h 29 min to spare on top of a 1 h safety margin.
Rule of thumb: it keeps the safety margin as long as all aboard is 12:01 pm or later. Even a short 7:00 am–2:00 pm call works.
The meeting point is at the cruise pier or a short walk from it — the operator's own directions are written from Fort Street Tourism Village (tender landing). We allow 8 min to walk off and find them; usually no taxi and no transfer eating into your day.
Among the 240 Belize City shore excursions we track, this is one of the shorter ones (the median runs 5 h); 57% of them fit a typical call. Belize City is a tender port: we add 45 minutes to get ashore and keep you back 30 minutes before all aboard for the last tender.
Computed from the tour's published duration, the distance from the cruise pier to its start point and the typical Belize City call. Adjust your ship's times above to recheck.
About this tour
The historic Belize City tour offers an interesting insight into the old capital city of Belize. Belize City is the largest city in the Central American region of Belize and was once the capital of former British Honduras until the government was moved to the new capital of Belmopan in 1970. The population of Belize City is 67,964; with neighboring suburbs adding up to about 80,000. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens.
Belize City was founded (originally as “Belize Town”) in 1638 by British lumber harvesters. It had previously been a small Maya city called Holzuz.
Belize Town slowly improved its infrastructure and has been the object of numerous infrastructural projects. Nevertheless, many of the streets built from colonial days are still small and congested, a majority of houses are still susceptible to fire and damage from hurricanes.
